In 1960 Roger Olson, Gail Gustafson and Durand Peterson founded Asphalt Service, Inc., an asphalt sealing company, to maintain the roads of Chautauqua County, New York. As the company has evolved, Roger found that there were additional opportunities to sell asphalt to construction companies in the process of building roads. Jamestown Macadam, Inc., an asphalt processing plant was purchased in 1973 to process mined aggregate into asphalt suitable for building roads, parking lots and driveways. Corbet Hill, a mining company that specialized in aggregate for asphalt production , was established in 1973. In 2000 HYBanks Gravel Products was purchased by the company to gain access to 118 acres of land, including mineral rights; this land is located on an Indian reservation. The principals of JMI acquired the assets of LER Concrete, Inc. in October 2003. Today JMI is 100% vertically integrated. JMI has a long history of involvement in Western New York projects.
